FMD And TADs Investigation Laboratory

Activity & Task

 

a) Operate as a referral laboratory for the diagnosis of major epidemic diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, swine fever, and bluetongue.

b) Provide necessary support to the Department of Livestock Services to formulate national policies, strategies, and programs for the control of diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and other Transboundary animal diseases.

c) Formulate disease control action plans based on national statistics to make disease diagnosis services effective.

d) Provide support in disease control by conducting serological surveillance of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and Bluetongue.

e) Prepare reagents and diagnostics necessary for the collection and dispatch of quality samples required for diagnosis of epidemic diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and Bluetongue.

f) Analyze the effectiveness of foot-and-mouth disease and swine fever vaccines used under the National Disease Control Program.

g) To develop disease diagnosis technology in a timely manner and make it effective.

h) Coordinate with national and international laboratories to harmonize disease diagnosis, investigation and control process.

i) Support animal health security by providing prompt and comprehensive disease diagnosis services from the laboratory.

j) Develop, expand, and transfer modern modern disease diagnosis techniques in animal disease research laboratories.

k) Raise awareness among farmers and stakeholders about the prevention and control of adverse effects on animal and livestock production caused by major epidemic diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and Bluetongue.

l) Coordinate with national and international organizations to investigate and diagnose epidemic diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and Bluetongue.

 m) Participate in proficiency testing in coordination with international referral laboratories.

n) To operate the laboratory information management system.

 

 

Sample Testing and Analysis Section:

  1. Prepare and implement work plans for sample collection, testing, and analysis in the laboratory.
  2. Identify the types of viruses causing foot-and-mouth disease and classical swine fever.
  3. Analyze the effectiveness of foot-and-mouth disease and swine fever vaccines used under the National Disease Control Program.
  4. Conduct serological surveillance of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Classical Swine Fever and Bluetongue.
  5. Arranging the results of the tested samples to be sent to the relevant agencies on time.
  6. Maintain records of laboratory-related documents.

Molecular Biology Section:

  1. Prepare and implement work plans for sample testing and analysis in the laboratory.
  2. Characterize Foot-and-Mouth Disease viruses by serotyping using PCR methods.
  3. Diagnose Classical Swine Fever viruses using PCR methods.
  4. Arrange for timely transmission of results of tested samples to relevant authorities.
  5. Conduct specific tests for animal diseases using the latest molecular biotechnology methods.

 

Biosecurity and Quality Control Section:

  1. Ensure biosecurity of laboratory environment and personnel working in the laboratory.
  2. Control the quality of testing methods used in the laboratory.
  3. Establish procedures for safe handling of chemicals, reagents, and media.
  4. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of laboratory and laboratory equipment.
  5. Dispose of biological and other substances safely after laboratory testing.

Administration Section:

  1. Perform administrative tasks related to personnel management in the laboratory.
  2. Conducting all other administrative tasks including laboratory commodity management.
  3. Perform accounting and financial management tasks related to the laboratory.
